Moderate to fine conditions with a splash of heat over the weekend saw many boats get out on the water, with plenty of great catches being landed. Bottom fishing was hot with good catches of large-mouth nannygai, coral trout, gold spot cod and many more.
Reef Fishing
With the low winds and sun out over the weekend, many anglers hit the water chasing large-mouth nannygai and coral trout, with many having some solid catches coming aboard while fishing the local reefs off Cairns. Spots such as Arlington Reef provided some nice coral trout, red throat emperor, gold spot cod, giant trevally, and even a few spear fishermen nailed some big trout for the esky.

Game Fishing
Trolling lures along the headlands off the front of Cairns around Cape Grafton in the tinny had a local angler on his feet chasing down a nice black marlin in his tinny. Not the usual catch in a small boat, but definitely a welcomed one.

Rivers, Estuaries and Beaches
Making the most of the good weather again many fishos hit the Trinity Inlet finding some nice schools of grunter and barra fishing fresh and live baits along the edges of the mangroves and mud flats. Heading out the front of the rocky headlands with some live sardines fished well picking up good catches of fingermark off the rocks and casting lures along the beaches around the Russell Heads area went well seeing some solid chrome barra hitting the sand.

Freshwater Creeks and Dams

Weekend Outlook
For those wishing to hit the water this week might want to hold off until the weekend or later due to strong winds and rain forecast but once the storms have passed it looks to be around 10 knots or under which could see some good days ahead to get out on the water for some hot reef action or running the tinny up the creeks for some crabs as they often get flushed out of their holes with all the fresh from the rain. Looking for those dirty and clean water lines should see some good barra and jacks moving in and out of the dirty water ambushing baits.
